The University of Split (UNIST)

The University of Split was founded on 15 June 1974 when the units having already had an effect in their professional, scientific and teaching areas entered its structure.

There are over 22.000 students at University’s eleven faculties, one arts academy and four University departments. Although fairly young, the University of Split can be proud today of over 150 study programmes delivered in social sciences, humanities, natural, technical, biotechnical, medical, biomedical sciences and arts. The offer is continuously enriched with new, interesting and attractive study programmes. The focus of the research work carried out by the University is on scientific areas with reference to disciplines characterised by natural, cultural, historical, social, economic and other features of the region as a part of the Croatian Adriatic and the Mediterranean region as a whole.

University of Split successfully cooperates with the leading European universities, as well as with the universities from other continents. University also successfully participates in the Erasmus programme – the biggest student, academic and administrative staff exchange programme. Judging by the number of incoming Erasmus, guest or degree seeking students, University of Split has become an attractive study destination. Other aspects of University activities are experiencing internationalization as well. University is a coordinator and partner to a number of international projects (TEMPUS, FP7, Horizon 2020, Erasmus+, ESI...), programmes and a member of international associations.

The mission of the University of Split is to contribute society through the development of the higher education and lifelong learning, scientific-research, artistic creativity and professional work in accordance with the high standards of excellence, ethics and moral.

Within the University of Split there is one Centre of excellence for science and technology integrating Mediterranean region. There are three components of the Centre, and one of them is related to advancement of Education, which is a part of this NQF-in project.

Among teaching and research expertise in wide spectrum of fields, the UNIST is an institution with a specific expertise in new EU tools and practice for modernisation and reform of higher education systems, based on implementation of the EQF and the QF-EHEA. This includes development of study programmes based on learning outcomes and labour market relevant. The UNIST has been involved in qualifications framework development and implementation in most countries in the region, including management and development of quality assurance system for higher education and other sub-systems.
